putting the Capel in Capel Curig

Description

Driving home from an early morning trip to Llanberis, the sun fighting through the mist at the ancient St Julitta’s church in Capel Curig. caught my eye and I had to pull, over to grab some photos.

The village in Eryri is named after St Curig, a 6th century Celtic bishop who tradition says built his chapel on the spot of this church. Unfortunately latinisation of St Curig’s name caused confusion with a 4th century child martyr St Cyricus. When St Curig’s chapel was rebuilt the church was accidentally renamed after St Cyricus’ mum St Julitta
